By providing and serving a Thanksgiving meal to Freedom for Youth (FFY) students and their families! Sign up to serve and/or bring food, drink, paper goods, etc. via the link below.
What is Freedom for Youth?
Freedom for Youth delivers and supports youth through training and curriculum after-school and summer programs to more than 500 youth across Iowa. Young people are discovering their God-given talents and planning their future. Some graduates are attending four-year colleges, community colleges or trade schools, or starting careers in health care, manufacturing, construction, and ministry. Serving Roles with Descriptions:
SERVE Greeter Front Door– 4:30-7:15 Greet both guests and our Lifehouse team as they arrive. Help bring in food, etc. Be knowledgeable about details on the event such as meal serving start time, where to park, where restrooms are, etc. Be the friendly face that welcomes everyone. Assist with clean up.
SERVE Kitchen Crew–4:45-7:15 Help in the kitchen to accept food being brought in. Keep food locations organized, so they can be easily located. Finish any preparation of food that comes in that is not ready to serve. Bring out food as needed to refill serving table. After serving ends, assist with getting leftovers distributed and kitchen cleaned up.
SERVE Line Liaison–4:45-7:15 Be the person at the kitchen window communicating with the buffet table servers and kitchen crew on refills needed. Before serving time, help direct food to serving line until full and them to kitchen. After serving ends, assist with getting leftovers distributed and clean up.
SERVE Serving Table–4:45-7:15 Before serving time, help arrange buffet table with paper goods, food, etc. Ensure a good amount is ready to serve at the dinner start time. Serve assigned items to guests. After serving ends, assist with getting leftovers distributed and general clean up.
SERVE Dessert Table-4:45-7:15 Before serving time, help with receiving desserts and portion out on plates, so they are ready for guests. Ensure a variety of desserts are available. If needed, help guest get their dessert to their seating location. After serving ends, assist with getting leftovers distributed and with clean up.
SERVE Drink Table-4:45-7:15 Before serving time, help get drinks made in large drink dispensers. Plastic drink cups should be filled 2/3 full with various drink flavors or water. Make more drink as needed. After serving ends, discard leftover drink and help with clean up.
SERVE Guest Line Assistant–5:30-7:15 Get familiar with what all is being served at the buffet, dessert, and drink tables, so you will be able to explain items to guests. Help those that need assistance by explaining foods/drinks, carrying their items, etc. Help people with to-go containers as requested. After serving ends, assist with clean up.
SERVE Bus Tables & Trash Removal–5:30-7:15 Gain understanding of where dumpsters and extra trash bags are located. Remove dirty plates, glasses, etc. as guests leave to make area ready for the next guests. Empty trash cans as needed (dumpster out in front of the building). After serving ends, assist with getting dining room area cleaned up.
SERVE Dishwasher–6:00-7:15 As dishes accumulate, wash and dry reusable dishes. Some dishes will be FFY property, and some will be Lifehouse team. Set clean dishes in an area for people to come pick up. After serving ends and many have left, the core team will help identify what dishes go where.
SERVE Photographer-5:30-7:15 Take fun pictures of guests (if they approve) and the Lifehouse team. We would love to have pictures to share as we host this event in the future. This role can be bundled with another position if needed.
SERVE: Fill in Where Needed-4:45-7:15 Fill in for any of the other positions due to last minute schedule conflict or illness

Please plan to bring food items prepared to serve to the FFY location, 2301 Hickman Rd, Des Moines, IA (behind QuikTrip at corner of MLK Pkwy and Hickman Rd).
Non food and drink items may be brought to FFY by 5 pm or to church (to FFY table) on or before Sunday, November 24th.
