Update on John Weber: As many of you know, our long-time friend and elder John Weber was recently (and suddenly) diagnosed with AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia), an extremely aggressive cancer which affects the blood and bone marrow, where abnormal white blood cells called myeloblasts are produced. They multiply rapidly and crowd out the healthy blood cells one needs to live. The medical prognosis for John gives him less than a month to live - there is no medical cure. As of Saturday, John has been moved to Kavanagh House hospice care. Where man gives no hope, scripture offers hope in the healing power of Jesus Christ. We have no doubts, and neither does John, that God can indeed heal him and remove this cancer from his body. And yet, we await the Lord's decision to do so. As always, we desire His will to be done over our will. John and Mona still both have lots of fight and faith-filled prayers left in them, and they ask their church family to come into agreement for 15 more years of life. God can do this, and we are earnestly making the case before the Lord. John and Mona are founding members of Lifehouse, and John has been an invaluable leader, elder, maker of disciples, prayer warrior, and prophetic voice in our body. Please continue to seek the Lord on behalf of John and Mona. Kavanagh House provides a setting where friends and loved ones can visit him. However, we ask that you please refrain from visiting John if you are or have been recently ill, bearing in mind that he has a compromised immune system at this time, making him vulnerable to even common illnesses. We also ask that you give deference and consideration to Mona and John's family, as time is precious. Feel free to direct notes, letters, cards, video messages, and the like through the church, and we will see that John receives them. Please no plants, gifts, or anything of that nature. More than anything, they covet your prayers. John is at the Kavanagh House located at 900 56th St., Des Moines, IA 50312.
Help for the Webers Several of you have asked what you can do to help/love on John & Mona. Right now, Mona has identified things that would be most helpful: 1. Gas gift cards to cover all the back and forth driving from home to hospice, and 2. cash to buy meals while she stays with John at hospice. A cook at hospice offers low cost meals for family members who are staying with loved ones around the clock. If you’d like to donate, you can Venmo Audra @Audra-Curtis-1 or bring gift cards & cash to church on Sunday. Please mark any cash given “benevolence: Webers.” We will deliver gift cards and cash to Mona. Thank you in advance for your generosity! Please continue to pray for a miracle for John!
Lifehouse Farmers Market: The Local Missions team invites you to bring your fresh garden produce each Sunday this summer to share with others. No garden? No problem! You’re also welcome to bring baked goods or other homemade items. Look for the market set up in the entryway.

Freedom for Youth Fall Kickoff Outreach Event On Friday, August 22 from 4:30 - 6:30 pm, we have the opportunity to assist the staff of Freedom for Youth with their Fall Kickoff Outreach Event. This is a fun way to get families in the community signed up to participate in the Freedom for Youth programs and learn about Jesus! The Fall Kickoff Outreach Event will be held at the Evelyn K. Davis Park at 1400 Forest Ave in Des Moines. They could use some extra hands to help with grilling, crafts, games, bounce houses, ect. The biggest need is a couple guys to help with grilling. There will be a sign up sheet at a table outside the sanctuary the first 3 Sundays in August. You may also contact Lois at 712-579-0465 or Dawn at 515-554-9716 to sign up. Please prayerfully consider helping with this event!
We will also be collecting school supplies and snacks for Freedom for Youth during the month of August. School supply ideas include backpacks, colored pencils, pencil sharpeners, pens and scissors. Snack ideas include applesauce, crackers, chips and pudding cups.
Freedom for Youth is a Christ centered ministry that shares the love of Jesus with high risk children in the Des Moines community. The goal is to help these children know Jesus, transform their lives, break out of bondage and find their God given talents. I believe the recent sermons on a child like faith were such a great reminder for what Jesus can do in and through the lives of children. Let's help Freedom for Youth share Jesus!
