The Depths of God’s Wisdom
There are moments in life when we throw up our hands and admit, “This doesn’t make sense.” Paul must have felt that way as he wrestled through God’s plan for Israel and the Gentiles. Yet instead of despair, his heart erupted into praise: “Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God!” (Romans 11:33).
That is the heart of this passage. God’s plan is mysterious—but it is never uncertain. His wisdom is deeper than we can fathom, His knowledge beyond our grasp, His ways higher than our ways.
If we’re honest, that can be frustrating. We live in a culture that insists everything must be explained, tested, or proven before it can be trusted. The hubris of mankind says, “I must make sense of God before I will serve Him.” But God is not beholden to our categories. He is God—and we are not.
Paul reveals that the heartbeat of God’s mysterious plan is mercy. Once disobedient, now shown mercy. Once resistant, now welcomed by grace. Both Jew and Gentile alike stand in need of mercy, and both are offered it in Christ. That truth should humble us and reshape how we see others.
And where does Paul land after all this theological wrestling? In worship. “For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.” (Romans 11:36).
When life doesn’t add up, our calling is not to master God’s wisdom but to trust it. His plan is unsearchable, but His character is trustworthy. Our posture, then, is not pride but humility. Not despair but hope. Not silence but worship.
This week, as you face questions without answers, remember this: God’s wisdom is deeper than your understanding, His mercy greater than your failure, and His glory brighter than your doubts. Rest in His wisdom. Rejoice in His mercy. Respond with worship.
