Part 24: Treating the Symptoms (Don’t just treat the symptoms of a heart problem)

The bane of many good physicians in our modern age, is that they are all too often placed in the position of treating symptoms, all because patients refuse to address the underlaying attitudes and behaviors that are slowly hurting them. Everyone knows, treat the symptom and the problem remains – and it is the problem that we must address. In our text today, Jesus calls out this very thing as it pertains to the cleanness of one’s heart. For the religious of his day, they believed that it was the physical things put into one’s body that made them unholy. Jesus makes a radical revelation however, stating that it is what proceeds from the heart of man, not what he eats, that makes him unclean.
