When God Is Still Working… But Something Is Off
Have you ever had something in your life that seemed fine on the surface—but deep down, you knew something wasn’t quite right?
That’s the tension we stepped into this past Sunday as we looked at Judges 3 and the story of Ehud.
What makes this passage so compelling is that nothing appears obviously broken at first glance. God still responds. God still delivers. Israel still experiences victory and even enjoys 80 years of peace. On the surface, it looks like everything is working.
But something has shifted.
Unlike Othniel in the previous passage, there’s no mention of the Spirit of the Lord coming upon Ehud. The deliverance is marked more by strategy than surrender, more by calculation than clarity. And while God uses Ehud, the story leaves us with an uncomfortable realization: not every victory reflects spiritual health.
That’s where this message presses into our lives.
It’s entirely possible to experience God’s activity while drifting from His heart. It’s possible to say the right things, maintain the appearance of faith, and still be living in quiet compromise.
One of the key takeaways from this message is simple but sobering: don’t confuse God’s activity with His approval.
God’s mercy is real. His patience is real. But His kindness is meant to lead us back—not allow us to drift indefinitely.
So the question we’re left with is this:
Are we walking in wholehearted devotion… or living on borrowed mercy?
God still delivers—but He’s not just after your rescue. He’s after your heart.
